- Freddy Cannaday, Worship Pastor
Having worked up and down the east coast as a professional musician in both the secular and sacred realms for more than thirty years, I have had the opportunity to perform for and with some of the best, well known musical artist in the world in a wide variety of locations and situations. As great as that is, none of that can hold a candle to being able to lead in worship to our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.
In addition to the many performance opportunities I have had over the years, I have also spent a great portion of my life teaching music as well. Everything from private and group lessons to school aged students in the public and private school systems to working with adults and children of all ages while directing theatrical shows as well as serving as musical director at many churches. I have just started into my second year hear at Calvary and feel very excited that things are beginning to take off!!
I am currently in charge of directing all the music for the worship services which includes the Praise and worship team, Praise Choir, Live Orchestra and Hand bell choir. Each week the music department members bring forth the “Good News” from Gods word through song. Whether it be Classical or Soulful, Gospel or Solemn. The singers and musicians all give of themselves through their musical talents. I believe that when we sing praises unto God with a full heart of praise, He is well pleased.
Psalm 71:23 says… “My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you- I whom you have delivered.” AMEN
- Jonathan Nye, Children’s Ministry Director
As a grateful follower of Jesus the Messiah, I enjoy investing my time studying and sharing His WORD (the Bible). When not cultivating something in the garden or preparing to teach a lesson you may find me touring on my bicycle around the community, sailing on the Elizabeth River, making more environmental art or on an adventure to “the ends of the earth” sharing the “good news“. May our paths cross in the not too distant future until then let your light shine!

- Ruth Brisbin, Administrative Assistant
It has been my privilege to be part of the Calvary Baptist Church family since the late 1980’s. I have been involved in Music ministry, Vacation Bible School, Children’s Ministry on Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings, and Food Pantry work. The congregation here at Calvary is truly loving, growing, and serving and I have benefited greatly from being a part of it. The Personnel Committee chose me to be Administrative Assistant in February of 2017 and I am enjoying serving Calvary in that role. My work hours are 9:30 – 2:30 Monday through Thursday. I deal with correspondence, prepare the bulletin and presentation for projection on Sundays, keep track of attendance, and assist Pastor Hal and our Financial/Operations Manager, Walt Smead. Please feel free to call during business hours and I will be glad to help you any way I can.
